Darrah Short, Social Work

Darrah Short is Wyoming born, raised, and educated. She grew up in Casper, Wyoming and comes to URLEND from the Masters of Social Work program in Laramie, Wyoming. Darrah has a Bachelors of Social Work with a minor in Disability Studies and a certificate in Community Health Work - all from the University of Wyoming.

Darrah values community, social justice, relationships, and dignity. As a human trained in the social work profession, Darrah has worked in pursuit of food security, in prevention and survivor support of relationship violence, and in peer advising and college prep. Darrah has worked with the disability community on self-advocacy projects, community-based participatory research, and educational programs.

Outside of work and school, Darrah is an artist. She finds inspiration from people, social conditions, and nature. Darrah loves being outside to swim, hike, or lay in the sun. Darrah enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and community in any way she can. She is learning to cook and is mastering the art of fermentation - kombucha has been the most successful!

Darrah gravitated towards the interdisciplinary and holistic nature of URLEND. She wants to learn from people with disabilities and professionals outside her field to reach her ultimate goal: empowering individuals with disabilities and effecting positive social and system changes.
