Mikayla Gudmundsen, Occupational Therapy
Faculty: Daphne Hartzheim
Mikayla Gudmundsen is currently an occupational therapy student at the University of Utah. She is originally from Florida but has loved her time living in Utah so far. She and her husband both attended BYU for their undergraduate programs. She finished a bachelor's degree in Exercise and Wellness with minors in gerontology and music. In fact, she was a clarinet performance major in her first two years of undergrad and treasured her time spent in the music program and ensembles.
She has a varied work background that includes working with persons with disabilities as well as outdoor guiding. She and her husband were zipline guides in the Smoky Mountains and Colorado, where they also spent their summers hiking, backpacking, and enjoying many beautiful sunsets.
Her experience working with persons with disabilities includes working at the University of Utah's Center for Disability and Access, as well as caring for persons with tetraplegia and cerebral palsy. As a peer mentor at the U, she works directly with students with neurodivergence or neurodevelopmental diagnoses. With a doctorate degree in occupational therapy, she hopes to continue working with disabled populations. Specifically, she is interested in a pediatric and maternal rehabilitation path. URLEND provides an exciting opportunity for her to explore these fields and work with many disciplines.
