Makenzie Holmes, Nursing

Faculty: Emily Navar

I am attending the University of Utah's Doctor of Family Nurse Practitioner Program. I have been a nurse for 13 years and have worked in many areas, including long-term care, memory care, rehabilitation, family practice, acute care, and emergency care. I want to work in a rural area and serve patients with difficulties obtaining medical care. I hope to offer varying clinic hours and methods of care delivery to optimize health care for all populations. I was born and raised in Vernal, Utah. I've moved around a little but returned to Vernal, where I have married and have two children. We have a small hobby farm. We raise and show horses. I love just being with my animals and spending time with my children. I love learning and reading and spend much of my time sharing that love through teaching. After completing my education, I hope to teach in our local Utah State Extension and continue volunteering and teaching in the Utah 4H Horse Program. Through URLEND, I want to create career-long connections that will aid me in serving children in need in my area. Through this experience, I will learn to effectively screen, refer, and advocate for pediatric patients and their families.
